Sponsors Day report 01.03.25

They came in droves! What a fantastic Sponsors Day this Saturday, 1st March 2025! The sun shone, with bright blue skies. They came from near and far in their droves on St. David’s Day to see the CS Stags 1863 v London Welsh RFC double header, a happy crowd of at least 400 or more. 60 covers for a fantastic pre-match lunch with our guests from CLX Professionals, represented by Stewart Leonard, and many other club sponsors, plus a delegation from Middlesex RFU headed by Nigel Orton, the President, and of course our visitors London Welsh RFC headed by Michael Talbot, Honorary Secretary. The lunch crowd was boosted by a wide selection of former players, player sponsors, friends, and family. Thanks to Kings House School for the tasty two course lunch, and all the preparations and service on the day, which was much enjoyed by all. The day was rounded out by a club evening social, entertained royally with some great cover hits by ‘Poke,’ who rocked the packed audience in the upstairs rooms with an equally gritty performance as those on the field earlier, and got the room dancing and singing well into the night. Thank you so much, Matt Johnson and the band.
To get two cracking rugby matches played on top of all that was a bonus indeed. In the 1st XV match, a strong London Welsh side took a 0-19 lead into half time, three tries up. However, CS Stags came back determined to dominate the second half, and with grit, rallied to claw back a four try bonus point, losing 22-38 at the finish. The Staghounds 2nd XV on the 3G kicked off earlier, and after an initial jolt from Welsh Druids taking the lead, won 54-31 in another great match, to remain top of the London Counties and South Coast Premiership.
This coming week – Saturday 8th March 2025. It’s another double header away this coming Saturday, against Camberley Rugby Club, Watchetts Recreational Ground, Park Road, Camberley, Surrey, GU15 2SR. Kick off times are currently listed as 14.30 for both matches (I shall update later in the week if any changes). All are most welcome to come and watch and support.
Photos and league table attached: Enjoy the photos (on Facebook and LinkedIn only) of the lunch, crowd, 1st XV game, and the evening entertainment. The league tables as currently showing on England Rugby are also attached – CS Stags 1863 remain in third place Regional 1 South Central, and CS Staghounds are still top of London Counties and South Coast Premiership (though the table has not been updated as yet to include this weekend’s matches.
