Match Reports - Saturday 22 Nov 2025
Firsts XV - a tale of two halves! Staghounds – a good win!
London Scottish Lions 42 - CS Stags 1863 14
I thought applying the grey background a suitable template for this match report, given the breezy, cold conditions, with low cloud and constant rain, that was the ‘meteo’ for the day at Chiswick! The piper did his best to liven the mood, piping us into lunch hosted by London Scottish Lions, and our Honorary President Mike Lee and Honorary Secretary Nick Always presenting Lions with our club plaque to commemorate the first time the two clubs have played a league match (albeit, we share the same ground these days).
Haring start by the Stags – two tries and 0-14 up with just seven minutes on the clock! First a strong attack up midfield saw Kain Rix dive over for a try on three minutes, and then a similar attack saw Emmet McDonnell round the defence on seven minutes. Both tries were converted by David Wilkinson at No.10. The game see-sawed around mid-pitch for the next twenty minutes or so, before a red card on the thirty minute mark for Ash Thomas (for a supposedly dangerous tip-tackle) changed the match entirely. Lions hit back with two tries on the 35 and 40 minute mark, one converted, and the half time score was 12-14 to the Stags.
The dank conditions heightened in the second half, and a few more yellow cards were meted out to the Stags, so that at one point we were playing with just thirteen men. Credit due to the Lions, who utilised this advantage to the full, and ran in another four tries (two converted) on the 55, 60, 67, and 76 minute mark, most of them coming from opportunistic individual breaks, through the (for once) weakened Stags defence due to the short numbers. Lions also took the opportunity to grab two penalties in front of the post, on 45 and 65 minutes. The Stags boys tried their hardest, but the final score was 42-12 to the Lions, 6 tries to 2.
It was a hard day at the office! Congratulations to Marcus Kay and Charles Kantolinna for their first starts and debut for the 1st XV, but also to the whole team and squad, who gave their best in difficult conditions. Onwards and upwards you Stags! Heads up to Worthing at home next week - we go again.

CS Staghounds 28 – Blackheath Heathens 22
Another great showing by the Staghounds (II’s) at home on the AGP at Chiswick (but sharing the same dire weather conditions as the first team), triumphing over the Blackheath RC (II’s) 28-22 in a bonus point win– 4 tries apiece. Guy Jones scored a hat trick of tries, with Alex Crocker bagging the other one. Aaron Musa Lucas was voted Man of the Match for the Stags. Thank you to Blackheath for the game, and credit goes to both squads, coaches, managers etc. for overcoming injury and availability in order to field teams on the day – your efforts are appreciated. Top win Staggies!
