Stags welcomed Camberley RFC to Dukes Meadows, playing on the 3G pitch, due to the large bi-annual Try Tag Rugby tournament at Kings House on all the other grass pitches. Conditions: cloudy, and reasonably mild. Stags boys proudly running out, broad shoulders, to show off the latest kit just arrived!

The usual fast start ensued, with Stags putting early pressure on Camberley. Emmet McDonnell broke through to score after only five minutes, and with David Wilkinson converting, Stags went 7-0 up. However, Camberley fought back hard, particularly at the initial scrums, and they equalised on 11 minutes with (former Stag) Raz Dranca going over for the try. Conversion followed, 7-7. Not to be outdone by association, Morgan Davies found a gap just six minutes later, running through some tackles to score under the posts (against the club where his father is co-chair)! Conversion nailed by Wilkinson again, 14-7 to Stags. And that’s how the first half remained, a pretty even contest all told, with everything to play for second half.

It was the Stags that bolted out the stalls start of the second half though. Ash Thomas on his return to the side, darting through with a good run, and digging in to stay clear of chasing Camberley defenders in the left corner. Unconverted. Then it was Parimal Shreshta’s turn two minutes later on the forty-five minute mark, rounding the defence and touching down close to the posts. Wilkinson converted, score now 26-7 to Stags. Camberley did rally several times with some strong attacks, but were thrice held up by some stoic Stags defence on the line. Parimal Shrestha scored next for Stags though, his second try, on sixty-two minutes. Converted by Wilkinson, score now stood at 33-7.

The last twenty minutes saw Camberley come back to score on sixty-five minutes, conversion going wide. 33-12. But no big comeback for them, the Stags firing in three more tries through strong running, back up, and excellent breakthroughs. First, Ash Thomas running in on sixty-eight minutes. Luke Trigg also tore down the left on seventy minutes to score, determined not to lose out on the try fest! Finally, congratulations to Ash Thomas, who gleefully completed his hat-trick of tries around about the seventy-five minute mark. Only the last try was converted by Wilkinson, his fifth conversion of the match, to make the final tally 50-12.

Well done to the team, squad, and coaches – a great result. This brings the Stags back up the league table to third place. It was fantastic to see a good crowd around the AGP – members, and faces old and new, family, mates, supporters – thanks for coming along. Do check out the categorised Stats I have extracted from the England Rugby website, where CS Stags feature prominently on many of them. Also feel free to look at the individual stats on the same website – we have several Stags players listed down among the leading try scorers, and David Wilkinson is currently second in the league points scorers listing, a result of his excellent kicking form so far this season.

Tries: 40 points (x8) – Ash Thomas (x3), Parimal Shreshta (x2), Emmet McDonnell, Morgan Davies, Luke Trigg
Conversions: 10 points (x5) – David Wilkinson
Penalties: Nil

The CS Staghounds 2nd XV travelled to Dorking to play their second team in the GAUCHOS ROC London Shield league. By all accounts it was a good game, well contested, with numerous tries. Dorking came out 36-15 winners, 6 tries to 3, with Staghounds just unable to snatch that four try bonus.

League games for next weekend, Saturday 25th October 2025: Both 1st XV and 2nd XV teams travel away together to (hopefully) sunny Jersey! Jersey are the current league leaders of London & SE Division, Regional 1, South Central. Looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces in both the home and away support, and we wish the squads well for their travel and return.
