Match Report - Saturday 29 Nov 2025

CS Stags 1863 34 – Worthing RFC 11

The CS Stags started off with a brace of tries in the first ten minutes of the game, and this is becoming somewhat of a trademark. First after just two minutes, a five metre lineout led to a perfect catch and drive, with Jake Farnworth holding onto the ball at the back of the maul and dropping on the line for the try. Unconverted, David Wilkinson just missing out from the right, which would be his only miss of the day. Just five minutes later, winger Luke Trigg finished off a good move on the left for his try, and with Wilkinson converting, the score was 12-3. In between, on the five minute mark, Worthing opted for the penalty kick to slot home in front of the posts.

Stags added again to widen the gap after fifteen minutes, with the other winger Henry Sweet cutting a good line to run in uncontested. Conversion successful, Stags now 19-3 up. Worthing slotted home another penalty two minutes after that to close the gap to 19-6. David Wilkinosn then converted a penalty for Stags ten minutes later to widen the gap again to 22-6. Worthing did try hard to claw back some points during the rest of the half, but were thwarted by the ever resolute and committed Stags defence. Then just before half time, skipper Jake Farnworth decided his burrowing skills at the back of the mauls needed to come into play again, and he reached out to the line for his second try. Converted, Stags took a 29-6 lead into half time.

Worthing came out second half with a renewed presence, and made quite a few good runs, drives, and attacks through the Stags midfield. But the Stags cover defence was up to the mark, and held up well. Worthing finally broke through after fifty-six minutes and much pressure on our line, for their first and only try, which was converted. 29-11 the score. They couldn’t add any more though, and after some excellent Stags runs by both the backs and forwards, it was winger Henry Sweet once again, for his second try, to round the defence and score on seventy-five minutes. Unconverted, the game ended with Stags triumphing 34-11.

A really good win by the boys, and this is the first time the club have beaten Worthing in a competitive fixture. Congratulations to Eze Ugochukwu for his first Stags 1st XV outing, and to the whole squad for another good game. Special mentions for John Hargreaves, playing at centre today, for his excellent distribution, seemingly involved and backing up every single Stags move, plus tackling and rucking like a seasoned back row player.

Tries: 25 points (x5) –Jake Farnworth (x2), Henry Sweet (x2), Luke Trigg (x1).
Conversions: 6 points (x3) – David Wilkinson.
Penalties: 3 points (x1) - – David Wilkinson.
