CS Stags put in a squad of 12 for the Middlesex 7’s yesterday at Grasshoppers RFC, and came away winning the main Open category. Led by Alex Jones and club captain Fred Cracknell, the boys convincingly won all three of their matches to take the cup.
On a gloriously hot sunny afternoon at Grasshoppers splendid Syon Lane ground, first up were the host team, and Stags won 31-19. Next in line were Hammersmith & Fulham, and an emphatic 43-0 victory followed. Last up, and billed as the final (in a somewhat reduced Open pool field due to a few pull outs unfortunately) were our neighbours Chiswick RFC, and Stags came out 47-12 winners. It was great to watch some good running, tackling, defensive cover, and attacking ingenuity that sevens play always seems to bring out. A great way to end the 2023/24 season, and as well as the cup, the team were awarded the prize of a new set of kit voucher for the coming season.
Thanks to Steve Partridge, Mark Coles, our own Fred Cracknell, and all the Middlesex RFU team for the organisation and set up, and to Grasshoppers RFC for hosting a grand day out. Well done again to the Stags 7’s team for the fine win!
