Another successful pre-season trial match for the CS Stags 1863!
Saturday’s game against Sevenoaks yields continued encouragement!
Saturday 16th August 2025 – 2.45 p.m. – at Kings House, W4 2SP
CS Stags 1863: 21 – Sevenoaks Rugby Club: 33
Yet another very successful and encouraging pre-season warm up game took place on the AGP at Kings House School Sports Ground, Dukes Meadows, Chiswick yesterday. Thanks to all who organised – Sevenoaks for coming up, coaches, physios, playing squads, LSRFUR, and the support on the touchline.
It was another impressive match, played at speed, with physicality, against a drilled Sevenoaks squad. The end result was close, and if anything, the Stags impressed and held the upper hand for the majority of the game.
The first quarter saw Stags pin down Sevenoaks in their half for much of it, and being held up a few times over the line. The Oaks boys ran away to score right at the death, and the conversion saw that a 0-7 quarter.
Stags came back strong again second 25 minute session and quarter, and this time took the result 7-0 with an excellent Bertie Watson pick up and breakaway from 60 metres out, his legs taking him to the line under the posts. David Wilkinson converted. 7-7 at the half time break.
Sevenoaks scored early third quarter, but the Stags pressed hard and countered back, with Kieran Dunne eventually touching down with fellow Stags support all around him! Both tries converted – score 14-14 after third session.
With several rotations for the fourth quarter, Sevenoaks piled on three tries in succession. All credit to the Stags who kept at it relentlessly, and dug deep, to score a try in the left corner at the death, touched down by Ikenna Obonna. A bit of hilarity then ensued to end the match, with a “gimme a go” from Kain Rix for the conversion kick, which he toe-punted old school style from the touchline, in off the post! Outrageous!
7-19 the final quarter then. Match score CS Stags 1863 21 – Sevenoaks RC 33. Very well done to all the squad for a great showing. Much encouragement for Oli Bryant and the other coaches to take away and hone down. All the best to the whole Stags quad as they continue their August training sessions – the 2025-26 season is just three weeks away!
